As the Procurement Lead at the First Nations Business Development Association (FNBDA), Michelle Carmichael is pivotal in advancing economic opportunities for First Nations businesses across British Columbia. Michelle joins us from the Northwest Territories of Canada. Focusing on transforming traditional procurement practices through a First Nations perspective, Michelle works to ensures that Indigenous businesses are included in procurement processes and benefit from sustainable economic development initiatives.
Michelle is responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, and community organizations. Her work involves advocating for policy changes, creating partnerships, and overseeing projects that promote Indigenous participation in supply chain management.
In her role, Michelle collaborates with Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and other partners to ensure equitable procurement practices. She also leads efforts to build capacity within Indigenous businesses through training, certification, and strategic advisory services.
Michelle is deeply committed to fostering enduring partnerships and driving systemic change. Rooted in her Gwich’in heritage, Michelle is committed to creating lasting partnerships that support the economic growth and sovereignty of First Nations communities. Her strong advocacy for economic reconciliation and unwavering passion for supporting First Nations communities in achieving their economic goals are evident in her work.
